Projeções de Cave is an ongoing series combining collective filmmaking and screening events in Lisbon. In each edition, members of Videoteca Snack-Bar work from a shared theme, following the logic of the exquisite corpse, in which each participant contributes an individual segment. An obsessive logic of “detox” and cleansing runs throughout the work, invoking cleaning agents that are themselves toxic. The space is white, saturated with the smell of detergent. The first projection presents an objective self-portrait in the form of a passport photograph, partially obscured by a glass surface positioned beyond a stepladder. The second is projected onto a wet sheet, dripping into a transparent bucket: a subjective self-portrait rendered as a blue, foaming liquid suggestive of toxicity and unease. Project description Two young curators travel to the Arrábida Mountains to set up an exhibition that will take place throughout the day as a live event, exploring a critical proposal about the lack of spaces and support for artistic and curatorial practice in the Portuguese scene. The choice of location is due to its symbolic and historical significance. It also reflects the challenges intended to be explored regarding the provision of artistic labor - every step of the process, from traveling to the site, transporting, and installing the works, will be difficult. The concept also stems from a need to treat time and space as artistic material. Invited artists will create Land Art installations, subject to environmental and physical circumstances and their unexpected changes throughout the day, exploring their potential as both artwork and exhibition of works conditioned by uncontrollable factors. After the construction and inauguration event, the exhibition will close, leaving its artistic traces to nature and their fate as artworks defined by the specific time and space of the mountains and the day in question.
