Self-Portrait

Synopsis: A video installation composed of two projections. An obsessive logic of “detox” and cleansing runs throughout the work, invoking cleaning agents that are themselves toxic. The space is white, saturated with the smell of detergent. The first projection presents an objective self-portrait in the form of a passport photograph, partially obscured by a glass surface positioned beyond a stepladder. The second is projected onto a wet sheet, dripping into a transparent bucket: a subjective self-portrait rendered as a blue, foaming liquid suggestive of toxicity and unease.
